"Make sure to not talk to any strangers, okay?"

"Yes, mom," said a blonde-haired boy as he held the phone to his ear, his mother in the screen in front of him. His fox-ears twitched slightly as his two tails moved around while he took the butter knife and spread the jelly over his toast.

"And be sure to lock the door and enable the security system before you leave."

"Mmph, mm." Now the toast was in his mouth as he slipped his sneakers on, tying them tightly and sliding the straps on the side. He munched on the brown toast with a few crunches as his mother sighed on the screen.

"And Miles, sweety…" He looked up at the screen. "Try to make friends today as well."

"I'm off, mom," Miles replied and slipped on his book bag over his back. The phone was placed onto the console on the wall, and the screen shut off. Letting out a dragging sigh, he slid his goggles over his hair. "Maybe…"

Miles Prower closed the door and pressed on the keypad outside the house. "FAMILY SECURITY ALARM SET. HAVE A GOOD DAY, MILES PROWER." This was the same routine Miles has been living since the past summer. It's already mid September, and the school year had begun a few weeks earlier. Since it started, this was the routine Miles had repeated day after day. To him, it seemed very…"Boring," Miles muttered as he walked down the residential district of Station Square. A school bus had passed him, but he didn't try to catch it. A public bus passed him, but he didn't try to catch it either. He didn't even bother to look at them. That's just how he was.

--

Miles watched the old man at the front of the class write on the chalkboard, filling it with mathematical and algebraic equations. Everyone else in the class was silent as they copied and wrote in their notebooks what was on the board. Sometimes, he could hear whispers float across the room, as his fox ears would sometimes move around like a radar, but he never really paid it no mind.

Without him knowing, a piece of paper folded into a triangle had bounced off his head. He could hear someone whisper, "You idiot, you didn't catch it!" The blonde looked down at the paper and simply stuck it into his desk; he really didn't care, as he knew what was written in it anyway.

Behind him was a slight snore. Miles slowly looked back to find that familiar blue hair face-planted on his desk. The teacher didn't say anything, even though this boy was obnoxiously loud. He was a drop out, or more of a leftover. He was left back twice and suspended a few times for violence. He was infamous in the school. And that blue…it was deep, and also annoying.

When the bell rung, the students stood up from their seats and left the classroom. Miles took out the folded paper in his desk and opened it. There were multiple writings in it. "That two-tailed boy is being a good student again." "Does he really need to study? He's already smarter than all of us!" "He's just a freak with two tails!" "Did you know what he can do with them?" Then the blonde gritted his teeth and crumpled it up. He also stood up from his desk and tossed the letter in the nearby garbage can.

The teacher noticed this and adjusted his glasses. "Are you alright, Mr. Prower?" he asked.

Miles simply looked back and smiled. "It's nothing," he replied and proceeded to leave.

"Oh, before I forget, Mr. Prower," the teacher interrupted and stood up. "The faculty asked if you can help fix the generator in the school's basement when you have the free time. With all of Eggman's attacks lately, it would hurt the school a lot if we were to run out of energy." Miles simply nodded and left.

--

It was lunch time, and the fat purple-haired black man gave Miles his food. "Thanks, Mr. Biggums," Miles said and took his bag, heading towards the exit.

"Oh, Miles," Mr. Biggums called out, "don't forget about the generator, 'kay?" Miles only nodded like before and left.

On the way, he bumped into a blonde with brown coyote ears on his prim and proper hair. "Excusez moi," he sneered at the smaller blonde. He was with a purple-haired girl in rocker-like clothing and another girl with pink hair and a uniform-like appearance. Miles simply ignored him. "I said, excusez moi!"

"Cool it, Antoine!" the purple haired girl hissed. "Sorry, Miles. Are you going up to the roof again?"

"Yeah," Miles replied to her with a distant look, trying to avoid eye-contact. "Sorry…Antoine."

"Hmph, that's what I wanted to hear, you two-tailed misfit." Antoine huffed and entered the cafeteria. "Mina, Julie, come on."

Julie didn't say anything as Mina rubbed Miles' hair and followed the two. Miles didn't look back and just went up the fire escape.

--

The sky was so clear and blue. It was SUCH a good day today…well, as good as it can get. It was the same every day if it was raining or sunny. The same routine, the same ridicule, the same old life. Taking a fry, Miles munched on it as he saw the city district of Station Square from the roof of his school. It was so distant and so small. He probably felt like that himself.

But when he looked up, the sky was beyond his reach, even though it was so big. "It's like this every day," he said to himself and munched on another fry. "Mom and dad are away on business, and I have to deal with this on my own. I guess I can't help it, though, since I was born this way." His tails moved around, shifting the plastic contained around next to him.

The blonde looked up at the blue sky, watching the clouds roll by. He made sure that no one else was on the school roof with him; it was something he was VERY particular of. "No one can see me if I'm here at this angle," he said to himself and spread his arms wide.

His two fox-tails began to rotate; slowly at first, but it grew progressively faster, making a sort of a cutesy, high-pitched helicopter propeller. Soon, Miles felt his feet lift off the school's concrete pavement as he began to float over the roof, his tails keeping their speed. He felt so free, so calm, and so good. It felt so...refreshing to embrace what everyone called weird. "I want this to be something special," he murmured, "not a freakshow...I'm not a freak. I'm only..."

"OMIGAWD, WHAT IS THAT?!"

A girl's scream broke his concentration. He thought he had been caught and began to panic in midair. Instead, he heard a rumbling. And smelled something burning. In front of him was a spherical robot, its thin limbs ripped off, flying towards him like a meteorite. "Wha? Wah! WAAAAH!!" he screamed and flew away from its line of free-falling. It zoomed past him, and a figure jumped right off it. The robot crashed just beyond the school grounds and into the nearby woods as Miles looked on in awe.

"Damn, that's a pretty cool thing ya got there," said an obnoxious-sounding teen voice. Miles turned around to find a familiar figure in front of him, slowly falling. His long blue hair was blown up by the wind, and his small triangular ears on his head twitched, just like Miles' fox ears. His green eyes were locked with Miles' blue, and the blonde forever engraved that smirk to his memory.

This boy, he's seen him so many times, but what had happened just now...was unreal. He never saw him leave the school, but how this happened was beyond his comprehension. All Miles could mutter was, "...Maurice..."

Maurice grinned and quickly landed onto the roof. He looked up at Miles, who was still flying, and waved his index finger left and right. "Tch tch tch. Wrong!" he said. "It's 'Maurice' when I'm in school. But when duty calls…" He then took his thumb and pointed to himself. "…you call me Sonic!"
SONIC the HUMAN
Chapter 1
Boring Life Meets Ultimate Speedster

=}The Story{=

Miles Prower was your neighborhood intelligent kid at Station Square, but was often ridiculed because he was born with two tails. Every day, he repeated the same routine over and over, that it not only became repetitive but ultimately boring. However, when he encounters his school's resident misfit, that boring life he repeated will shatter.

SONIC the HUMAN is a tribute to a Gaia Online roleplay I once joined and helped complete. Read as your favorite Sonic the Hedgehog characters take on human form!

=}Author's Note{=

I do not own the “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise. The “Sonic the Hedgehog” franchise belongs to SEGA, the Sonic Team, as well as some characters that belong to the Archie Comics. The original story belongs to Gaia Online member, Code-Nana, who has given me, one of the original members of the story’s first (completed) incarnation, permission to write my own take on it. This fanfiction is a tribute to Code-Nana, all of the original members of the first incarnation, those who joined the later incarnations, and to the very first roleplay I’ve ever finished. This one goes out to you.

The first chapter of a new story project, and also my ONE HUNDREDTH DEVIATION!! In 4 years, I've come a long way, even if I stopped somewhere in the middle. I am proud of myself for getting this far. 100 may not seem like a lot to you guys, but to me, who never really dedicated himself to anything, it makes me feel great!

To be honest, when I first joined the roleplay way back, I didn't have a clue about the Sonic games. Closest I was to Sonic was the Saturday morning (SatAM) cartoons, the Sonic OVA with Metal Sonic, and Sonic X. Even so, I managed to make it to the end, and I feel good!

To Code-Nana, to Sonic, and to my 100th Deviations on DeviantArt!

Code-Nana - A member of Gaia Online, and one of my oldest RPing friends, we started the story together. I was Tails, and he was Sonic. It was the first roleplay I ever completed, and I feel mondo accomplished. It's thanks to him that I'm able to write this story.
Gaia Online - This was were the idea was first spawned, as a roleplay. I owe some to most of my fanfic ideas to this place.

=}Project History{=

The project first started as a roleplay in November 10, 2006. I joined the roleplay two days later, 16 pages in, as Miles "Tails" Prower, when I was still a novice RPer. I didn't have much Sonic knowledge back in the day, but I've grown fond of the series thanks to the RP. The first roleplay ended June 18, 2007, and spawned several incarnations in the years to come. I gained permission from Code-Nana (originally Laharl01 and Blakku-Katto) to work on the project as a fanfic in March and began production in May 11, 2011. That said, enjoy this small rendition of Sonic the Hedgehog written by me and Code-Nana.
